Irish Society for Archives

We exist to promote the place of archives in Irish society

Our Spring newsletter is now available to view here. It includes articles on the Irish Quaker Archive, the first World Digital Preservation Day, Documents on Irish Foreign Policy project, the use of letters from the Great War held at Dublin City Library and Archive, Feis Ceoil, and a commemoration of the centenary of the all-important Guide to the Public Records of Ireland by Herbert Wood.

Previous newsletters can be viewed here.

The most recent edition of our journal, Irish Archives 2019, is dedicated to the 90 year history of the Gate Theatre, it was launched at City Hall in December 2018. Copies are free to our members, are available to buy from Easons and can be purchased individually from our editors.

Gate Invite 2018

In April the ISA organised an exclusive trip to Birr Castle and its archives.  18 members joined us for a tour of the Muniments Room with archivist Lisa Shortall followed by lunch in the castle dining room with Lord and Lady Rosse and finally a tour of the castle and grounds.  Special thanks go to our hosts Lord and Lady Rosse, to Lisa Shortall and Elizabeth McEvoy for organising this visit. Please see here for a report of the trip. Further images can be found in our gallery.Birr Castle ISA April 2019
