Irish Society for Archives

We exist to promote the place of archives in Irish society

Our Autumn newsletter is now available to view here. Articles include a tribute to Dr. Brian Trainor, the project to digitise acetate discs by the RTÉ Sound Archives, using GIS mapping with 1911 census returns, the Irish Jesuit archives and the Dublin City Hall lecture series.

A call for submissions will be made around mid-February for our Spring edition, however submissions are very welcome at any time. Articles can be between 300 and 1000 words, and since the newsletter thrives on images we would ask you to include relevant photographs, preferably in hi-res jpeg format.

This year’s journal will consist of the proceedings of the seminar held in February to commemorate 90 years of the Gate Theatre, it will be launched on Thursday 6th December at City Hall, Dublin at 6pm, see news of events for further details.

The 2018 Spring edition of our newsletter is now available to view here.  This edition includes articles on the Ballybit Vessel in Carlow, Jim Herlihy’s new book on the Irish Revenue Police, the Erasmus Smith Schools Archive, the ISA Gate Theatre Seminar and ‘The Archivist and the Historian’ symposium.

The most recent edition of our journal, Irish Archives 2018, dedicated to the 90 year history of ESB was launched in November 2017. Copies are free to our members and can be purchased individually from our editors.
